Doctor On Duty is a medical deputising and locum service that provides a medical home visiting service 24 hours a day, supporting member General Practitioners in this important facet of primary care. Our service also gives General Practitioners the welcome privilege of an uninterrupted night's sleep.
From modest beginnings, Doctor On Duty has developed to become a modern streamlined operation, covering hundreds of General Practitioners and making up to 5,000 patient house calls each month.
The service operates from the Dublin Medical Centre, a purpose-built facility staffed 24 hours a day. We also use a modern fleet of Doctor On Duty vehicles to ensure that patient calls are carried out speedily and efficiently and we use the very latest technology to ensure the highest standards of service.
Doctor On Duty is primarily used by General Practitioners to provide patient cover when they are unable to do so themselves, particularly overnight and at weekends.
We also have an arrangement with the Ministry of Defence to provide members of the armed forces with a home visiting service. We have similar arrangements with An Garda Siochana and a number of international travel insurance agencies.
Ideally, all patients should have their own General Practitioners. But if a patient is visiting from out of town or from abroad, Doctor On Duty will see them immediately on a once-off basis.
An Irish owned company, Doctor On Duty is headed by Dr. Pearse Phelan, who is both CEO and Medical Director.
